FAQ

Logistics & Practical

How and when can I submit my script?
To submit, please fill out the Script Submission Form. You’ll be asked to upload:

-Your script (PDF, max 15 pages)
        -A short bio
        -Your logline
-A brief director’s note (optional, but welcome)
-A link to your website or social media

The deadline to submit is 30th June 2025.
Do I have to RSVP to attend?
Yes. To attend, please register through the RSVP Form.

Once you’ve signed up, you’ll receive the Code of Conduct, and closer to the event, we’ll follow up with the confirmed date, time, and location via email. The event is planned for mid to late July, and RSVPs help us shape the room and keep the space safe, supportive, and intentional.

Even if you're just coming to listen, your presence contributes to the community and the feedback process.
Will the group be curated or first come, first served?
The event is curated and intended for filmmakers and screenwriters with a professional or semi-professional background.
Can someone else read my script aloud if I don’t want to?
Yes. If reading aloud feels uncomfortable, you can ask someone else to do it, but we strongly encourage writers to sit behind their work, to witness how it lands when read live.
Will the event be recurring?
That’s the plan! This is the first of what I hope will be a series of gatherings. Since it’s a pilot, we’ll use it to test the format, see how the group dynamic works, and shape future sessions based on community feedback.
What languages are accepted?
English
Will it be recorded?
Are phones allowed? Please do not video record the session to protect the privacy and early-stage nature of the scripts. Taking photos is okay. Please tag us if you share! We may document the event for research or internal development purposes.
Is there a participation fee?
This first edition is donation-based. We want to keep it accessible, while also recognizing the energy and care that goes into holding this space. Give what you can -  your presence matters most.
Do I need to be a writer to RSVP?
No. Everyone with an interest in storytelling is welcome. If you’re open to listening and sharing thoughtful feedback, we’d love to have you.

Format

Why do writers stay silent during feedback?
The writer’s role is to listen and take notes. Once the script is read aloud, without explanation, it’s up to the room to respond. This helps the writer understand what actually landed on the page versus what stayed in their head. It’s a powerful tool for identifying gaps in clarity, emotion, tone, and narrative.
How much time is allocated per script?
Roughly 15 minutes for reading (up to 15 pages), followed by around 30 minutes of group feedback.
Can writers clarify misunderstandings after the feedback session?
Not during the feedback round. It can be tempting to defend or explain, but letting the work speak for itself gives you honest insights into how it's perceived. That said, after the round is over, you’re welcome to ask the group questions or follow up with specific individuals.
Is it okay to read something very rough?
Yes, as long as it has structure, characters, and dialogue. We’re currently working with scripts (not treatments), and this space is for work in progress, not finished pieces.
Can I get a copy of the feedback notes afterward?
You’ll be taking notes yourself, so bring your notebook, Google Doc, or whatever method works for you.

Community Expectations & Safety

Who will be in the room?
This is a closed event for FLINTA identifying filmmakers who have registered in advance.
What are the group’s values? Will there be a code of conduct?
Yes. We are building a space grounded in respect, care, accountability, and anti-hierarchy. Everyone attending must agree to a simple code of conduct (you’ll receive this before the event), which includes:

        -Listening actively and generously
        -Speaking from your own experience
-Critiquing the work, not the person
-Respecting confidentiality. What’s shared in the room stays in the room
-No racism, ableism, queerphobia, transphobia, classism, or misogyny. Zero tolerance.

If someone violates these principles, we reserve the right to ask them to leave the space.
